The AMA Education Department was pleased to welcome Paul Voss to the International Aeromodeling Center for a demo of his new and innovative CNC airfoil cutting machine. Paul is an associate professor of engineering at Smith College, an all-female liberal arts college in Northampton, Massachusetts. He is also an AMA member that has been building, designing, and flying model aircraft since he was a teenager. During his visit, Paul introduced a simple and safe CNC airfoil cutter that he has developed for STEM education and outreach. The AirTime CNC machine is like a mini aircraft factory for the classroom, and can be used to cut airfoils, stabilizers, fuselage parts, etc. using low cost foam board. It is inexpensive, doesn't require a computer or software to run, and emits only a small amount of fumes.
